The Freedom Still Worth Building

“Thinking is the capital, enterprise is the way, hard work is the solution.” — Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
Seventy-nine years on, India’s proof is everywhere: empower people and enterprise follows. Our startup ecosystem is now one of the strongest growth engines in the world. But our greatest untapped opportunity is still waiting at the edge of the room — our women founders. Economic freedom, for them, means fair access to capital and opportunities. Not the door alone, but everything the door was meant to open.
An India where a woman’s ambition is met with capital— where her enterprise is backed as readily as anyone’s— that is the freedom still worth building, and the one I believe we will.
Happy Independence Day!

WHAT WE’RE READING, THINKING, & WATCHING
Reading
Lxme × EY — Unlocking Her Wealth. A sharp map of what it takes to move women from financial access to real wealth creation — equitable access, thoughtful design, behavioural change, and solutions built around lived experience. Essential reading for anyone shaping a more inclusive financial future.
Thinking
India's female work participation rate has climbed 83.2% since 2017-18 — more women at work than ever, and hard-won. But work is the door; enterprise is the room. The next climb is from earning to building — from showing up to being backed with capital that compounds. Which leaves a quieter thought for the day after: participation was never the destination — the freedom worth building begins the day after.
Watching
Open, with Mabel Chacko, on The Hindsight. One of the few women building fintech at this scale in India, Mabel is candid on the long, unglamorous middle of building — winning over banks, stumbling into unexpected distribution, building culture while scaling fast. What stays with you is her clarity on keeping the customer at the centre of every big decision. A must-watch for anyone building in fintech or enterprise software.
ONE ASK
This Independence Day, be the one who names her in the rooms she hasn’t reached yet. If you know a woman building something real, say her name when the funding or the seat is on the table, open the door she can’t knock on herself, and back her work before she’s asked to prove it twice over. When we invest in the people doing the building, freedom multiplies.
