India’s startup ecosystem has boomed — but not equally. Women founders receive less than 10% of venture capital, fewer than 1% of angel investors are women, and only two unicorns have women CEOs.

At SheSparks 2023, Vani Kola unveiled the State of Women Entrepreneurship Report 2023 to confront these gaps. A collaboration between YourStory and Kalaari Capital’s CXXO initiative, the report exposes the structural barriers women entrepreneurs face — from funding bias to imposter syndrome — while spotlighting a powerful finding: in deals led by women angels, 25% of startups had women founders.

The conversation that follows is equal parts data and conviction. It asks us to stop asking women “why?” and start asking “why not?”
